Sightings and reports of the Boggy Creek Monster have been coming in as far back as 1946, but the encounter that made the creature famous happened in 1971. The Fords family had just moved into their farmhouse out in the Miller County countryside, brothers Bobby Ford and Don Ford had just returned home from a hunting trip. It was late at night and the family was sleeping, Elizabeth Ford claimed that the creature reached through the screen of an open window in the living room where she was sleeping on the couch. Bobby, Elizabeths husband and Don Ford chased the monster away by shooting at him or her with their weapons from the hunting trip. A little after midnight the creature returned and attacked Bobby Ford by grabbing him by the shoulders and throwing him across the front porch. He managed to crawl free and was later taken to Saint Michael Hospital in Texarkana Tx for scratches across his back and mild shock.
During the attack the fords claimed to have shot several rounds into the creature but after an extensive search in the woods they were unable to turn up any traces of blood. However large three toed footprints were found close to the Ford house and scratch marks on the porch.
The monster was later spotted crossing Highway 71 on May 23 by D. Woods, Wilma Woods, and Mrs. R Sedgass they reported seeing an ape-like creature walking across the road.
